Wiechmann GmbH & Co.
For over 80 years

  • In 1932, the engineer, Harry Wiechmann, founded the company under the same name for ship electrotechnology with its registered office located at Am Dobben in Bremen.

  • The electrical engineer, Karl Iwang, joined the company in 1935. In the following years, the company, which mainly dealt with the construction of new fishing vessels and merchant vessels, considerably grew in size. The reconstruction after the Second World War, the consolidation of the company and its transfer to a pure family-owned operation were also primarily shaped by him.

  • After the death of the company founder, Karl Iwang became the co-owner and Managing Director in 1953; from the beginning of the 1960s on, together with the technician Rolf Kriete.

  • In 1969, the master electrician, Wilhelm Heuer, joined the company and became part owner and Managing Director after the retirement of Rolf Kriete.

  • In the 1970s, Wiechmann GmbH & Co moved into a new company building located in Bremen-Walle. The repair business was expanded, as well as being expanded to the foreign market. After the death of Karl Iwang (1978), his son, Peter, assumed part ownership and the position of Managing Director.

  • In 2013, the master electrician, Hans-Gerd Stuckenbrock, was appointed as an executive partner. The master electrician, Thorsten Schüttler, has been a member of the management board since 2015.

  • Today, an emphasis is placed on project planning and construction of electrical systems at modern PC workstations. The Wiechmann company has maintained a construction office on the premises of the Elsflether shipyard for many years.

  • In order to be closer to our customers, operations were relocated from Bremen to Lemwerder in 2011 and merged with the existing local branch there. In addition, Wiechmann GmbH & Co. located at "Am Hansering" moved into its new premises.

  • Thanks to longstanding business relationships with customers from the shipping and shipyard sector as well as continuously acquiring new customers, the company has succeeded in remaining under family ownership to this day. A further milestone will be participating in the SMM 2016 Hamburg for the first time.
  • Thorsten Schüttler has been sole managing director since March 2016.
